Migrating from Server to Cloud

This article covers the information needed to migrate app data from the Server to the Cloud.

What effect will migration have on my MultiExcerpt macros?

For most users, it won’t affect the macros at all. The Macro content is migrated automatically as a part of migrating all other page content. However, there is no Cloud equivalent of the Server/Data Center macro for MultiExcerpt Enhanced Permissions so you will need to consider your strategy for Cloud excerpting of restricted resources before you do this migration.

Do I need to perform any additional steps before migration?

No, update 5.6.10(or later) does not need additional ‘Prepare Migration’ steps. You can now follow the standard Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant (CCMA) process.

If you had previously done the ‘Prepare Migration’ action to prepare one or more spaces, you can continue migrating your instance to Cloud without completing your MultiExcerpt migration and without doing a rollback. MultiExcerpt Cloud will accept either unchanged Server markup or it will accept markup that was migrated to Cloud using the pre-5.6.7 migration tools.

Is it possible to convert my Confluence Server license to Confluence Cloud?

Unfortunately, no. Server licenses are one-time purchases with optional maintenance, whereas Cloud purchases are recurring subscriptions. As such, existing Server app licenses cannot be transferred or credited to Cloud. These are independent licenses that need to be paid for separately.

If you purchased your Confluence Server license directly via the Atlassian Marketplace, you may contact Atlassian Support to see if you are eligible for a refund.
